    This drug is prescribed for infections that might be caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. 

    It is used to treat bacterial infections like:

    • Respiratory Tract Infections: This may include bronchitis, pneumonia, and tonsillitis.
    • Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): This includes cystitis that may be caused by susceptible bacteria.
    • Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI): This includes uncomplicated gonorrhea.

    Cefpodoxime Proxetil Composition 

    The Cefpodoxime proxetil tablets usually contain an active ingredient, as the name suggests  -cefpodoxime proxetil. This is the same as the equivalent amount of cefpodoxime. Inactive ingredients may vary according to the manufacturer, but include:

    • Magnesium stearate
    • Sodium starch glycolate

    The dosage of cefpodoxime proxetil varies based on the type and severity of the infection, the age of the patient, their weight, and the overall kidney function. However, the general guidelines include:

    • Adults and Adolescents (12 years and above): The normal dosage is adhered to twice daily, but the days vary. For instance, those suffering from respiratory tract infections and uncomplicated urinary tract infections should take the dose for 7 to 14 days. For skin infections, the normal dosage is for 7 to 14 days. In case someone has uncomplicated gonorrhea, then the dosage can be given once time with a 200 mg dose.
    • Children between 2 years and 12 years: This dosage is typically prescribed as an oral suspension with the dosage calculated based on body weight.
    • Patients with kidney impairment: For those patients who have kidney impairment, dosage adjustments are very much necessary.

    • Alcohol Consumption: While it is not exactly contraindicated, it is still important to note that excessive alcohol consumption may exacerbate side effects such as nausea and dizziness.
